Calm and Comfortable

Dental professionals have used many methods to create a comfortable experience for patients. Before nitrous oxide was discovered at the end of the 18th century, wine and ether were used.

Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” has no colour or smell. It has no harmful side effects for the vast majority of people. Many describe the sensation as “floating” or “euphoric.”

Nitrous oxide is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a lightweight mask. By breathing normally you’ll soon feel the effects. You may feel light-headed or a tingling in your arms and legs. Ultimately, you’ll feel calm and comfortable. Since it doesn’t put you to sleep, you’ll be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions.

The effects of nitrous oxide wear off soon after the mask is removed. If you tend to get nervous just thinking about a routine dental visit, be sure to ask about nitrous oxide.
