Protecting Your Smile

Did you know that tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body? It acts as a powerful barrier, protecting your teeth from harmful bacteria, plaque, and acid that can cause decay. While enamel is incredibly strong, it isn’t indestructible, and once it’s gone, it can’t grow back.

Here’s how to protect your enamel and keep your smile bright and healthy:

1. Watch Your Diet

Acidic foods and drinks—like soda, citrus fruits, and vinegar-based dressings—can erode enamel over time. Try to limit these items and rinse your mouth with water after consuming them.

2. Use the Right Toothbrush

Brushing too hard can wear down enamel. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle strokes to clean your teeth effectively without causing damage.

3. Choose Fluoride Toothpaste

Fluoride helps to remineralise enamel and protect against acid attacks. Make sure your toothpaste contains fluoride for added defence.

4. Chew Sugar-Free Gum

Chewing gum stimulates saliva production, which helps wash away food particles and neutralise harmful acids, supporting stronger enamel.

5. Address Teeth Grinding

Bruxism (teeth grinding) can gradually wear down enamel. If you grind your teeth—especially at night—talk to us about protective solutions like a night guard.

Is it time for a checkup? If it’s been a while since your last dental visit, schedule an appointment today to make sure your enamel—and your smile—are in great shape.
