Protecting Your Teeth When You Can’t Brush

Brushing your teeth between meals is one of the best ways to help ensure that you maintain optimal oral health; however, there may be times when you can’t brush. Here are some ways to keep your mouth healthy until you can clean your teeth:

Drink water. Water can help to wash away cavity-promoting bacteria. Also, avoid any sugary drinks such as sodas or juices.

Keep dental floss on hand. Flossing can remove food particles between teeth until you can brush. It’s a good idea to floss once per day.

Chew a piece of sugar-free gum. Chewing gum promotes saliva production, which can toughen tooth enamel. It’s important though to choose varieties that contain a remineralising agent called CPP-ACP. This agent comes from a milk protein (casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate complex).

Of course, one of the best ways to protect your pearly whites is to see your dentist for regular checkups!
